Barbeque in Berlin

Barbeque in Berlin

Compared to many other countries in Europe, the rules in Germany are a bit different. On some fields they are quite strict in Germany but things like drinking Alcohol on the street and driving 180 on the highway are allowed for some reason. Not that we mind by the way. The fact that it is allowed to drink on the street brings some of the charme to Berlin, all over the city you can see groups of young people drinking and enjoying theirselves. If you combine the freedom to drink and the fact that you are allowed to barbeque almost everywhere in Berlin, you got yourself an awesome summer-activity.

Having a Barbeque in Berlin

Berlin has some very cool spots to organize a barbeque with your friends. At most locations it is allowed to grill and at some others the authorities do not really bother to make a problem. As long as you make sure to take your rubbish with you and do not bother the people around you everything should be fine. In this article I will just suggest a few nice places to have a barbeque in Berlin.

Volkspark Friedrichshain

Volkspark Friedrichshain is one of the bigger parks in Berlin and was the first public park that Berlin ever had. The park is very easy to reach because it is not far from Alexanderplatz. What is great about this park is that there is always enough space. On a warm summerday there will be some other people for sure but still there is enough room to play some football or throw a frisbee. Besides the central location and the space, Volkspark Friedrichshain is also very suitable for a barbeque because there is a supermarket (Lidl) very nearby. Close to “Platz der Vereinte Nationen” you can find a Lidl and they sell instant-barbeques as well. This basically means that you can spontaneously decide to do a barbeque and just buy all the stuff directly across the street.

Tempelhofer Park

Another great park to have a barbeque is Tempelhofer Park. This park is located in the south of Berlin and is even bigger than Volkspark Friedrichshain. The park is quite populair at the moment but because it is large enough there is  space for everybody. If you like sunsets Tempelhofer Park is also the perfect place for you: Because the park is very stretched and flat you can see a great sunset here.

The easiest way to reach Tempelhofer Park is with the Ringbahn, you can get out at Berlin-Tempelhof. But also with the U-Bahn you can reach Platz der Luftbrucke or Paradestraße easily.

Barbeque at the Spree

Besides the many parks who are perfect to have a barbeque, there are also some very attractive spots close to the Spree. As mentioned in the first paragraph it is not completely certain if all locations are allowed but out of experience I can say that it is quite hard to get into a lot of problem if you behave normally. A spot where you can have a barbeque and also enjoy the Spree is along the Stralauer Allee. Also Treptower Park is directly connected  to the Spree but sitting at the water is a bit more difficult.

Summarized

Having a barbeque in Berlin is one of the better activities in the summer. You can eat with a large group of people, enjoy the weather and the nature and no one has to cook. The locations I mentioned above are just some random locations I have been and which I liked a lot. Obviously there are plenty of other great spots. If you have any great spots, feel free to share them in a comment under this article.

And please take all your rubbish with you because we still want to enjoy this great combinations in a couple of year.
