Marcel Freigeist in Club Magdalena

Marcel Freigeist in Club Magdalena

The original plan was to go to an Open-Air in the ‘Lichtpark’, close to Kater Holzig. But because of the rain we decided to search for a club on this cold fridaynight in August 2012. Club Magdalena was a great decision!

Club MagdalenaEntrance Magdalena Berlin

The Magdalena in Berlin is situated on walking distance from S-bahn-station Ostbahnhof. A great location because it is only two stops from Alexanderplatz. The entrance is not very easy to find: On the Schillingbrücke you have to look for a small path which will lead you to the water, in the end of the path you will find  entrance to Magdalena (see photo).

Rationalism Label Night

Besides the possibility to have  your drink outside there are two main areas in the Magdalena. Also there is a smaller relax-area to chill-out after a session of your best dance moves. The music differs between the areas so there is something  to please almost everyone. On friday the 10th of August it was “Rationalism Label Night”. Rationalism is a label from Argentina which has been very popular over there for the last couple of years. Now they decided to come to Berlin and surprise us with their very unique sound.

Atmosphere

On this particular fridaynight the evening started with a little bit too much men in the club. Because of the great music this was not annoying and after 02.00 more women showed up and Club Magdalena became crowded. The visitors mostly seem to be focusses at the many talented DJ’s and the atmosphere was very laidback.

Besides that, the Magdalena offers reasonable prices: The entrance cost 10 euro and a 0,33l Becks is 3 Euro. Also they have special shot-prices: This night a shot of Schwartzhog was only 1 Euro. Perfect!

Chillout Area Magdalena

One particular DJ in the Magdalena impressed me very much. Between 02.00 and 04.00 Marcel Freigeist gave the audience a great set. Every time he managed to build up a song perfectly and deliver a very explosive climax. For the interested people: Watch the movie at the end of this article but don’t expect to much of the sound-quality.
Besides Marcel Freigeist there were many other DJ’s present. In this area Quiring & Wendekind spinned the wheels from 04.00 till 06.00 and D.D. Nose arrived at 06.00 and had an open ending. I left the place around 05.30 but I guess the party went on for many hours.

Magdalena: Defenitly worth a (re)visit

Most of the time these kind of nights are perfect. You expect something and the weather ruins your original plans. Then you are dissapointed but are surprised by a very cool new club which might be even better than the original plan. It is like a fairytale: Everybody is happy in the end.

I will be watching Marcel Freigeist the next few months because I would love to see him perform again. Also I will check the website of the Magdalena because this place is defenitly worth another visit.
