Tip for this summer: Open airs at Lichtpark

In the article about the 6 best open-airs in Berlin, I already stated that Lichtpark is one of my favourite open-air locations for the summer. For the last few years Lichtpark has been one of the best places to spend your free afternoon directly at the Spree in the middle of Berlin.

Update 20.08.2017: Lichtpark will not be available from 2015 onwards anymore. Currently there is no club or bar in the beautiful location described in this article. It’s a pity.

Open-air in Lichtpark

As mentioned above, Lichtpark has a gorgeous location directly at the Spree. So when you are dancing and take a look around you, you will  see the water, the Michaelsbrucke and even the fernsehturm. Another benefit of open-airs is the very cheap entrance fee. Most open-airs (including Lichtpark) normally do not charge more then 5 euro to get in. Sometimes Lichtpark even has the policy: “Pay what you want to pay” which is even cooler. You should not be greedy and walk in for free: Why not sponsor a great event with a small fee instead of being a greedy person. Personally I love this system.

Beach and beats

Lichtpark can be seperated in two different parts. A large part of the open-air can be called the stage and is meant for people who want to dance and enjoy the talented dj’s. Another large part of the surface concists of sandy beach where you can lay back in one of the beachchairs and enjoy your drink. Because most open-airs start at 12.00 and end around midnight it is perfect that you can combine chilling and dancing at the same location.

Practical Information

First things first: The beers in Lichtpark are 3 euro each (0,33l Becks). The bar close to the dancefloor is normally very busy so it can take a while before you get your drink. But not a lot of people know that there is a second bar close to the toilets. At this bar it is a lot easier to order your drink but you have to keep in mind that you can only buy drinks in bottles at this bar (no shots and mixdrinks).

Furthermore, Lichtpark is really easy to reach from the Michaelsbrucke, halfway the bridge you will find a line of people or two bouncers and this is where you should be. Last year the entrance was still on the shared surface of Kater Holzig but this year they changed the setting at Lichtpark.

The message is clear and simple: Lichtpark offers great music, good prices and is opened at least once a week during the whole summer. So when you are looking for a good open-air location, Lichtpark should be on your list of alternatives.

For more information about Lichtpark it is probably best to check out their Facebook-Page. Besides that you can also check Resident-Advisor if you want to find out which events are coming up in the following weeks.
