The last couple of weeks the sun has been cheering up the city of Berlin: The people are in a better mood, the city looks even more beautiful and many great outdoor-parties will be organised again. A few weeks ago we already published our list with 16 great German festivals around Berlin but one of these festivals is organised in Berlin itself and therefore it’s worth another mention: We are talking about Lollapalooza Berlin.
The Lollapalooza festival
Lollapalooza originally comes from the US but has been organised in 7 different countries over the last couple of years. Countries like Argentina, Chile, Brazil and France have already been the home to this versatile festival. Lucky for us, Germany has also been one of the countries. The festival has been organised since 2015 in Berlin. Also this summer it will take place in again: On 7 and 8 September 2019 you can enjoy many different bands, DJs, activities and workshops in the west of Berlin. Unfortunately there will not be camping included in this German festival, but just book a hostel in the city and you can even still visit a great party in Berlin after Lollapalooza stops the music (around 23.00).
The Location for 2019: Olympiastadion
This year it will be the fifth time that the Lollapalooza festival will be organised in Berlin. The editions of the Lollapalooza Festival in Berlin so far:
- 2015 – Airport Tempelhof
- 2016 – Treptower Park
- 2017 – Rennbahn Hoppegarten
- 2018 – Olympiastadion
- 2019 – Olympiastadion
As you can see 2019 is going to be the first year that the organisation chose to repeat the location where the festival will be held. In 2017 they learned the hard way that the transport is a crucial part of the success of a festival. It took people hours to get home that year. Therefore it is a wise decision to stick with a football-stadion: Olympiastadion is used for football-matches every second week, many thousands of people will be able to reach this location without problems.
Four different stages
Just like other years there will be 4 different stages where more than 50 different artists will be playing throughout 2 days. Because every stage has a different music-style, there is something cool to see almost every second of this two-days festival. A few weeks ago the last couple of names have been published which completes a pretty solid line-up for Lollapalooza 2019.
Kings of Leon, Scooter, Rita Ora and more
So far Lollapalooza always invited solid names to their festivals. In the last editions in Berlin there have been names like Foo Fighters, Mumford & Sons, the XX, Muse, Radiohead and many other great acts. On Lollapalooza Berlin 2019 you can enjoy some famous bands and artists like Kings of Leon, Kraftklub, Hozier, Rita Ora, Billie Eilish and Dean Lewis. Besides that you will be able to dance your feet off with DJs like Martin Garrix, Swedish House Maffia, Scooter, Claptone and Bart B More. As mentioned there will be more than 50 artists, so these are just a bunch of them. All the names can be seen on the Lollapalooza Website!
A lot more than just music
Besides a great line-up, Lollapalooza is offering a lot more for its visitors. A few examples of things you can expect on Lollapalooza 2019 Berlin:
Der Grüne Kiez
A community with all kind of workshops and activities connected to sustainability. A perfect initiative, especially in a conscious city like Berlin.
Art at the Park
Enjoy some art during your festival in Berlin. In Art at the Park you can see some unique and inspiring art in the middle of the busy festival.
A place to lay back and chill between the busy program of dancing, drinking and socialising with your friends. In sunny September this is definitely going to be a place I am going to visit.
As the name implies this area of Lollpalooza is all about fashion and lifestyle.
If you ever visited the Olympiastadion you might have noticed that there is a swimming pool on the property. This pool is used for some beautiful choreographies and shows during Lollapalooza Berlin 2019.
As mentioned above, the Lollapalooza festival in 2019 will take place during the second weekend of September. You can either buy day-tickets for 84€ or a weekend-ticket for 149€. This ticket-stage is not the most expensive one yet so it makes sense to buy your tickets as soon as possible. The prices will go up to 169€ for a weekend-ticket- Reaching the Olympiastadion should not be a problem, a direct train is leaving from Alexanderplatz and stopping at all the big stations like Warschauer Straße, Friedrichstraße, Hauptbahnhof and Zoologischer Garten.
Lollapalooza 2019 in Berlin summarised
If you like versatile music and are looking for a great festival close to Berlin, you should definitely consider Lollapalooza. No camping takes a bit of the atmosphere away but it also has plenty of advantages to sleep in a proper bed and arrive the next day totally rested. The line-up is solid and the price of the tickets is still reasonable if you compare it to visiting a concert of some of these artists.
