If you pass the building during the week, you would not expect this place to turn into a vibrant party-place during the weekend. Just like many clubs in Berlin, the About Blank is located in an old and discrete building with plenty of street-art on the walls. Although this club might not show up on lists with most famous clubs in Berlin, it is definitely a place you should visit if you love to electronic music.

Directly next to station Ostkreuz

It’s always an advantage if a club is easy to reach. The About Blank is located directly at one of the bigger train-stations called Ostkreuz. After a long night of partying in Berlin it should therefore be easy to get back home (or find your way to the next party). It’s also not bad that there are loads of affordable bars and restaurants on the other side of the station. This gives you the opportunity to meet up with friends for some food and drinks before visiting the About Blank.

About the club About Blank

Don’t let the simple entrance fool you. Behind the doors of the About Blank you will find some of the best electronic parties in Berlin. There are two dance-floors with different styles of music played by local talent and international DJs. Usually one of the floors is dedicated to techno and the other floor focuses on house, disco or other electronic music. All in all it’s nice to have the opportunity to switch music-styles during the night.

Large open-air garden

Besides the two indoor floors, the About Blank also offers its visitors a large garden. Besides chilling or enjoying a campfire this third floor is turned into an open-air location when it’s warm enough. These outdoor-parties are always something special and we would recommend visiting them whenever you get the chance. During the summer the About Blank often stays open for several days in a row so you will not have to worry about opening-hours.

One of the most popular events in the About:Blank is called Homopatik. It’s organised at least once a month and is one of the most popular gay-parties in Berlin.

The Door-Policy

From what we’ve experienced so far, the door-policy of About Blank is not as strict as clubs like Berghain, Sisyphos or Kater Blau. If you just ask normal in the line and do not arrive with a big group of boys you should be fine. It can be smart to not arrive at the prime-time of the night which is between 01.00 and 02.30. This will increase the change of getting in and also avoids standing in line very long.

Keep in mind that it’s never guaranteed that you will get into a club in Berlin. If you get rejected, it’s best to just accept it and find another club to have a great night (e.g. Ritter Butzke, Wilde Renate or Watergate).

Prices and practical information

The About Blank is offering a great nightlife-experience for a very reasonable price. Just like most other techno-clubs in Berlin the entrance-fee is about 12-15€. Especially if you can get a stamp and come back to party a day later, these prices are very fair. The drinks start at 3€ and there is also a pizza-corner in front of the club. The pizzas are nice and also affordable. As mentioned you can reach the About Blank by travelling to station Ostkreuz.

  1. I had a really good experience at About Blank – Cool bouncers – asking if I was alright(in a good mood) ready for having fun. Totally cool place – nice friendly people.

    • Hi Veitner,

great to hear that you had a nice night at the About:Blank. We also like the place a lot.

      Thanks for your comment.

      Best wishes!

  2. Hi Job! so good to read this review. I don’t know why but it’s usually really underrated, personally I find it one of the coolest and with the best atmosphere in Berlin!
And also, I never witnessed anything like zarathustra explains. I have seen people rejected (even I was rejected one time) but never with bad words or in a bad way at all. I always find the bouncers in Berlin to be strict but correct and polite.

Very interesting blog! too bad I discovered it now that I’m no longer in Berlin haha

    • Hi Olga,

personally I also like the club a lot and did not have any bad experiences. But there are many different bouncers and these people also have bad days I guess 😉

Thanks for the compliment, maybe you can use it when you are back here some day!

      Cheers!

Violently attacked by doormen, refused entry due to nationality!!
My friends and I (all English) went to the club last Thursday (26/11/15) and were denied entry to the club. Everyone else in the queue had been allowed in so far and we weren’t drunk or loud or aggressive in any way, nor were we dressed any differently to the rest of the queue (it was freezing so we all had coats on anyway), and so we asked why we weren’t. They said they couldn’t say why and we had to leave because we are trespassing (?!?) and then very forcibly pushed and kicked us all (mainly girls) backwards down the stairs, grabbed my boyfriend around his neck and had him in a headlock. Such disgusting behaviour! They then continued to let the rest of the queue (Germans) in.
Reading other reviews I see other people haven’t been allowed in because they were English. So not only were we discriminated against because of our nationality (Isn’t that against EU law?!), we were physically attacked, and they didn’t want to tell us because they didn’t want to admit it! We called the police for the attack but their discrimination has gone unchecked.
Stay away from this club, and if anyone else is physically attacked by the door-staff, immediately call the police. Since we were attacked without provoking them at all, I imagine this happens every night.

      Hi Zarathustra,

Sorry to hear that you had such a bad experience at this club. Personally I have visited this club quite often and never had or saw such things happen.

We also visited with some Dutch people and they asked a lot of questions but were not aggressive. Maybe other people will read your comment and also share their experiences…

Hope the rest of your stay in Berlin was good anyway!

      Cheers
