Spot squirrels at Treptower Park

Berlin is a great city for peope who love nature. In comparison to many other large cities in Europe, Berlin is not that densely populated and a lot of nature can be found close to the city. Earlier I already wrote articles about  Teufelsberg, Engelbecken Park en Volkspark Friedrichshain and today I would like to inform you about Treptower Park.

Treptower Park

Crepes Berlin

In the east of Berlin, about 1,5km from station Ostkreuz, you can have a great walk in Treptower Park. It is kind of special that a park with this size can be found so close to the centre of a capital city. Because Treptower Park is located directly at the spree, there is a small harbour with some boats. In the small harbour you can eat something and even buy some souvenirs. From my own experience I can tell that the crêpes taste very good. Another benefit coming from the combination of water and trees is the amount of different animals. When I visited the park, I spotted swans, squirrels and many other animals. Because the squirrels are kind of tame you can feed them and they do great on photographs.

Insel der Jugend

If you continue walking down the road in the east direction, you will see a bridge at a certain point. The bridge leads you to the the Insel der Jugend (Island of the Youth). This small island is perfect for a walk and because it consists of a lot of grass you can have a nice picknick or rest close to the water. Treptower Park itself also has a great amount of grass. This makes the park very suitable for sports like football and badminton. Also, the park is very popular for jogging.

All in all we can conclude that Treptower Park is another great place to release the stress and enjoy the nature. You can forget about the busy city and clear your mind staring into the water.

The park is easy to reach, you can travel with the S-Bahn to station Treptower Park and walk straight into the park. This park cannot compete with Teufelsberg but defenitly deserves a visit.
